CONCLUSION
Why create a global complementary currency for
local community development?
Why not just create a currency in each community?
Although there are many successes in the complementary
currency arena, many local currency systems struggle to get a
foothold; their limitation for conversion to other currencies,
along with their lack of portability, inhibits their broad
acceptance.
VeraCoin™ does not seek to replace local currencies;
indeed competing currencies will be encouraged. Vera-City.net
will make available an exchange mechanism for all forms of
currency helping to make local currencies as script more viable.
Making VeraCoin™
a global currency,
as well as making it seamlessly convertible to
dollars or other currencies, will provide for a broad acceptance
of this new currency.
Issuing
VeraCoin™ as a digital currency will make it as easy to use as a
digital debit card. With VeraCoin™ being digital it is possible to skip the
plastic debit card phase and go
directly to using smart phones; in many parts of the third world
it is the preferred method for transferring money.
Further, by being portable, it will be universally
accepted in numerous local communities around the globe,
nurturing vigorous local economies tied to small businesses.
The various Vera-City communities will have a say
in what businesses can participate in the currency exchange in
their particular community or region; only businesses that fit
with the demand and support of the community will be included.
There is also the human desire to be part of something bigger
than oneself; the investment potential from VeraCoin™ through VeraShares
for making a difference
on climate change is attractive. By
acting collectively, we can amass the needed capital to
make a significant difference in our energy and economic future, without
relying on government to choose the winners and the losers.
Our membership will have the economic and cultural clout
to wrest the
control of our energy future away from the powerful oil
companies. As a multitude of like minded people, interested in
developing self reliant communities that are sustainable, we can
have a real and substantial impact on who owns and controls the
energy resources in the world.
Further, as a virtual global community we can work in
solidarity with other communities around the world, with the
more prosperous communities linking resources (financial and
human capital) with the less prosperous communities and sharing
prosperity person-to-person (p2p) and community-to-community
(c2c).
There are two communities of affinity that have the potential to
move this enterprise rapidly forward; one is the religious
community and the second is the arts community.
The religious community is well organized, but it is
organized in a factional way. Though there are laudable attempts
to find common ground, this community is far from achieving any
kind of cohesion; although there still lays within it a latent
potential.
The
arts community on the other hand has a broad sense of affinity
which cuts across all disciplines, it is a vibrant community
well suited to inaugurate the course of action suggested by this
proposal. Within the
arts community there is a substantial tradition of artist moving
into blighted parts of cities, sowing the seeds of
gentrification (unintentionally) which results in economically
and sociologically vibrant communities that attract all stratums
of society.
The other advantage of the arts community is that it is
internationally cohesive; as such it has a global presence which
makes this community a symbiotic fit with the goal and purpose
of
Vera
City
. Therefore the arts
community will be the focus of networking in the early phases of
this enterprise.
The ultimate vision is to establish
a virtual 3D Vera
City; perhaps purchase a region on Second Life, or develop a
proprietary virtual world on Vera Cities own servers.
This arrangement will allow for virtual meetings face to
face with members anywhere in the world.
Virtual festivals and conferences can also be arranged to
bring members together for valuable chance encounters.
Members of disparate communities will be able to more
comfortably interact with each other.
Mirroring what is taking place in the virtual city (or vice
versa), the real world implementation of community development
will be done in a festive manner; if it gets to be hard or no
fun it’s being done wrong.
Festivity is the purpose and promise of utilizing the
arts community as the pioneers of this endeavor.
It was the artist community that propelled the Occupy
Wall Street movement* and this energy is presently latent and
can be drawn upon in a movement to
Occupy Main Street
.
To inaugurate this enterprise and to construct the business and legal superstructure
to promote community coalitions, there is a need for a host of
professionals including, web/game designers and programmers,
angel investors, as well as credit/debit card experts, along with bankers
and lawyers.
Also needed is a team of adept social network experts to
initiate a dialog with community organizers active in
revitalizing their respective Main Streets in order to lay the
groundwork for quickly implementing the scheme.
An immense amount of work needs to be done in a stealthy
manner to build up a social network and fashion an alternative
infrastructure, so when it is launched it can reach critical
mass rapidly and be too big to stop.

- “Art has emerged as a major vehicle for expressing the
Occupy Wall Street movement.”

Post - “Occupy Wall Street descended on Broadway, drawing
a range of writers, actors, and directors who wanted to
"take back the stage" with street performances.
