AN OPEN LETTER TO

OCCUPY WALL STREET

The question has been raised as to where Occupy Wall Street should go from here.  The street actions were important as they were the most effective way of expressing the seriousness and scope of this movement; however these actions have proved to be unsustainable.

The time is eminent for exploring actions we as agents of change can take individually and collectively to counter the Wall Street deception, within a framework that is both replicable and expandable on the Main Streets across the country; in short, we need to foster an occupy Main Street movement.

I suggest a strategy for the occupy movement that involves harnessing the vast amount of available human capital represented by the multitude of unemployed and underemployed average Americans.  We can no longer look to government or Wall Street to heed our demands; we need to move forward as a powerful multitude using collective or “neo corporate” power to change the trajectory of our social/economic condition with an innovative “social contract” that supports the aspirations of the ninety-nine percent.

Given the present state of affairs in the world we have a rare opportunity to deconstruct the old institutions and create new robust institutions that respond more quickly to the changing times, propelled by the new paradigms expressed through the exploding open source movement.

The website www.vera-city.net (Vera means truth) is offered as a venue for carrying out this strategy; a place where people can learn and share approaches toward grassroots revitalization of our Main Streets.

Vera City is only a seed of an idea waiting to grow; it presently contains links to numerous neighborhood development websites that offer working concepts on a wide range of community wealth building strategies.

Among the numerous stratagems listed on Vera-City.net are, Coops, ESOPs and CSOPs (employee and consumer stock ownership programs),  along with viable renewable energy stratagems,  as well as local complementary currency models.

A promising initiative proposed for Vera City, is a global digital complementary currency called VeraCoin™.  With the national currency constrained by debt, restraining the exchange of resources, an alternative means of bartering the fair exchange of goods and services deserves serious consideration.  VeraCoin™ will be a hybrid complementary currency, which will include a share or stock component to provide both liquidity and risk capital for local alternative energy initiatives globally.

The potential of the Occupy Wall Street movement can be leveraged in support of Main Street, by moving into a new phase of action while the fervor and energy remains adequate to the task ahead.  Vera-City is an idea whose time has come, so it’s time to open this effort to others to move it forward quickly.

I’m seeking collaborators who have the skill to move this project into the mainstream within a coordinated and inspired revolution conducted by capable and proven community leaders to liberate Main Street from the predations of Wall Street, utilizing an Open Source Governance model, evolving into a self generating, self replicating and self regulating coalition.

I know this is a bold proposal, but the grim times we live in demand we take great risk. No real success is ever achieved without the sustained dedication of committed individuals.  Those that can forebear temporary setbacks and forge ahead with a willingness to shed obsolete and detrimental policies of the past to create a new future.
